This is not my main blog. This is the other blog. The one that charts all the random bumps on the highway that is life. It was also my first blog, so it is, in it's own special way, still the best.

The other one, the one that I update regularly, can be found here.

That's all for now.

Living the dream

Every so often I think it's important to go back to your roots and relieve a childhood dream. For instance on Sunday a housemate and I went down to Sega Park. We spent half an hour shooting things lots and racing fast cars. Then we went to Burger King and had a burger.

We rounded the afternoon off by going to the cinema and watching a nice pretty action movie with lots of fun effects and explosions but without much of that annoying plot stuff so many modern films go for (or X-men 3: The Last stand as it's also known. I mean really, if ever there was a film that was trying to do too much and failing at all of it...).

Basically it was every 12/13 year olds idea of a perfect birthday party. We were in every sense living the dream. Except that we're a bit older now and the dreams kind of changed. So it's not the dream anymore.

So that made me think, well, why not? After all we constantly work towards these things, why not actually go out and enjoy them while we can. Ok, so it's not as great as it would have been when we were kids, but it's still fun! And if we're always hunting after tomorrow, or fighting for today, then surely we should spend a bit of time appreciating the past as well?

what a great philosophy! sounds like a lot of fun...
maybe people need to prove, in their teens (especially) and 20s, that they are grown-ups and don't do childish things anymore, so spend a few years doing grown-up stuff, then have kids and remember that it's actually fun to have your face painted and play with mud? not a very well-researched theory i admit... :-)

actually, to add to that, maybe rather than when you have kids (coz obviously you don't yet) it's when you've either realised that the concept of 'grown-up' doesn't really exist, or when you feel secure in your adulthood, that you can celbrate childishness?

I think we spend so much of our childhood trying to be older. Trying to grow up faster (and generally getting it wrong - Can you remember when you drank to get drunk?) so we can be adult.

Even now there's a feeling that we're not there yet - there's the marriage, the mortage, the kids to go. There's this whole dea that when we're older and more settled everything will be fine, and we kind of forget where we came from sometimes. That maybe our thoughts and ideas when we were younger are just as valid as the ones now?

Yeah, as fun as "just another nut" was, it was only ever a temporary thing until I decided on a proper title. Unfortunately I got a little bored of it. I wasn't really feeling that inspired at the time though and so all I was having was...

It won't stick like that, I just need to discover what it's actually called!

As for the squiggler - I decided it was time to add a few more variations in! That being said he's also only in a transition period, I'm none done with his tongue yet - the shadings all wrong for a start, and his mouth doesn't change shape...
